Christian Education
When we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story, a story that continues today!
We believe that Christian education and growth should be a lifelong endeavor–not just one reserved for the kids. We invite all adults to join us in the journey to enrich our ongoing Christian education by attending one or all of our adult education programs. Feel free to drop in any time and no prior Bible experience is required!
Education Opportunities for Adults
*Due to covid, many of these groups were temporarily suspended and will resume in the near future!
Thursday Morning Lectionary Study
Every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Undercroft.
Take a look at the upcoming Sunday’s scripture readings. The Thursday Morning Bible Study is led by members of the congregation.
Discipleship Small Groups
Once per month, various days
Those who participate will be able to meet Jesus and learn the unforced rhythms of grace in a way beyond the Sunday morning experience. They will do this through prayer, scripture reading, and learning some of the main elements of our faith together.
Children and Youth
Sunday School – Age 3 – 5th Grade
Sunday School for children is at 10 a.m. each Sunday, September through May. Children can be dropped off in the Sunday School rooms, in the church’s preschool area, downstairs from the Fellowship Hall. Children experience God through music, loving teachers, and a Bible-based, age-appropriate curriculum designed just for them!
First Communion Classes
During first communion classes, we explore the meaning and history of communion, what it means to forgive and be forgiven, and what happens when we share this special meal each Sunday. We meet twice, once on a Sunday, and the following Saturday, when we bake the bread that will be used for communion in worship the next day. The children then receive their first communion at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Confirmation, 6th – 8th Grade
In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), confirmation ministry aims to help a student identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission. Faith’s Confirmation program is for students in the 6th-8th grades and includes monthly classes, weekend retreats, a week-long summer camp shared with other students from the DC Metro and Delaware-Maryland Synods, service projects, and more.
Confirmation classes are typically held monthly.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer, Faith hosts a week-long, half-day Vacation Bible School program for children in Pre-K (potty-trained) through 5th grade. VBS is staffed by members of the church and parent volunteers, and brings the stories of the Bible to life through songs, crafts, games and other hands-on learning activities.
