Christian Education

When we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story, a story that continues today!

We believe that Christian education and growth should be a lifelong endeavor–not just one reserved for the kids. We invite all adults to join us in the journey to enrich our ongoing Christian education by attending one or all of our adult education programs. Feel free to drop in any time and no prior Bible experience is required!

Lenten Offering: ELCA World Hunger

This year, Faith continues its tradition of supporting ELCA World Hunger during Lent. An estimated 820 million people in the world go hungry. ELCA World Hunger provides immediate relief to those who are hungry  — domestically and internationally — to address basic needs and recognize the universal human right to food. But ending hunger is about more than food. ELCA World Hunger also supports sustainable solutions that get at the root causes of hunger and poverty. They connect people with the resources they need to produce food and gain access to clean water, education, health care and sources of income. For more information on this organization’s vital work, visit https://www.elca.org/hunger. Children and Youth

Sunday School – Age 3 – 5th Grade
Sunday School for children is at 10 a.m. each Sunday, September through May. Children can be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall and picked up at the same place at 10:45 a.m. Students experience God through music, loving teachers, and a Bible-based, age-appropriate curriculum designed just for them!

First Communion Classes
During first communion classes, we explore the meaning and history of communion, what it means to forgive and be forgiven, and what happens when we share this special meal each Sunday. We meet twice, once on a Sunday, and the following Saturday, when we bake the bread that will be used for communion in worship the next day. The children then receive their first communion during worship on Sunday.

Confirmation, 6th – 8th Grade

In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), confirmation ministry aims to help a student identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission. Faith’s Confirmation program is for students in the 6th-8th grades with a confirmation ceremony in 9th grade. Classes are typically held once per month on a Sunday afternoon at Faith or one of our partner congregations in Falls Church or Alexandria. There are also periodic weekend retreats, service projects, and more.
