Creation and Fall

This week we return to our roots: the roots of creation. As we hear the story of Genesis 2, we watch God create a profound, beautifully “good” creation. But after creation comes the fall, leaving us with this tension: we are like God in many ways, and we are profoundly not like God in our creatureliness and finitude. Listen as Bishop Leila Ortiz explores the ways we are called to trust in God’s love in the face of the temptations and challenges in our lives today.

Accompanying Scripture:
Genesis 2:4b-7, 15-17; 3:1-8, Luke 11:4

All Saints Sunday

This past post-season, Pastor Kate felt torn between wanting to believe the Nationals would win it all but also thinking they’d probably lose. This is very similar to the Israelite people who were torn between worshiping both Baal and God. Pastor Kate explores what that looks like for us today.

Accompanying Scripture:
1 Kings 18:17-19; 20-39, Mark 9:2-4

Being the Light of Christ

Guest preacher Rev. Rose Mary Sánchez-Guzmán visits Faith to share her experience ministering to the community of Cristo Rey Lutheran Church in El Paso, Texas.

“Jesus already crossed all kinds of borders for you. He came to be the light of the world. How can we not dare cross borders with him to bring his light to others? What we have is not because we deserve it. They are gifts that bring us into relationship with others – and with God, who reaches beyond the boundaries of men.”

Accompanying Scripture:
Isaiah 9:1-7
John 8:12

How Much More

When we pray, God promises to respond with God’s presence, whatever the outcome of the situation we are facing in this imperfect, broken world. Very often, we are the presence of God for one another.
