All Saints’ Sunday

This Sunday we celebrated All Saints’ Day, a day where we remember the lives of those who have died in the past year. As we gathered to mark their lives, we heard from the prophet Elijah, whose story reminds us of the vulnerability of the human condition. Listen as Intern Pastor Miriam explores how despite our fragility as earthly creatures, we have a God who promises to sustains us daily, both in this life and forever.

Accompanying Scripture:
1 Kings 17:1-24, Luke 4:24-26

God Answers Hannah

Often we pray and sometimes it seems our prayers go unanswered. But there are those times, like in this Sunday’s story from 1 Samuel, when God does answer our prayers. Listen as Pastor Kate explores how God does hear us and has more power than anything else in this world, including our current problems.

Accompanying Scripture:
1 Samuel 1:9-11, 19-20; 2:1-10, Luke 1:46-55

Golden Calf

Let’s face it: We are pretty impatient people. Waiting in lines, waiting for people to call us back, waiting for mail to arrive… Isn’t this what gave rise to same-day delivery, instant shopping online, and meal delivery services? Why wait when you could have it now! The Israelites struggled with waiting too. This week their impatience gets the better of them. Listen as Intern Pastor Miriam explores what we do when we are afraid and more specifically, what we do when we are afraid that God isn’t there for us.

Accompanying Scripture:
Exodus 32:1-14, Luke 23:34

The Promise of Passover

In the Exodus (which literally translated from Greek means “way out”) story, Moses and the Israelites were looking for the exit from slavery. This week we heard the end of that story, when God provides them the exit sign they are looking for. Listen as Pastor Kate explores the ways God provides even for us today.

Accompanying Scripture:
Exodus 12:1-13; 13:1-8, Luke 22:14-20

This week we hear the story of Joseph – the favorite son blessed with dreams from God and a beautiful coat from his father – sibling rivalry almost turns deadly. Joseph says, “You intended to do me harm, but God intended it for good.” Listen as Intern Pastor Miriam explores what this really means for us, and how God uses bad moments for good.

Accompanying Scripture:
Genesis 37:3-8, 17b-22, 26-34; 50:15-21, Luke 6:35

Listen as Pastor Kate explores the ways God provides answers and hope when we are faced with the disappointment of empty promises in our lives today.

Accompanying Scripture:
Genesis 15:1-6, Luke 3:8

Getting Along

Whenever two or more are gathered…it can be hard to get along. While this isn’t quite what Jesus says to his disciples in this week’s readings, it certainly does seem to be a fact of life for us. Jesus talks about listening: Listening to those we disagree with, to those who have wronged us, and to those we have wronged. How well do we listen? Listen as Intern Pastor Miriam explores how to move forward when we haven’t heard.

Accompanying Scripture:
Ezekiel 33:7-11, Matthew 18:15-20

Times of Trial

“God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.” It’s a go-to saying for many when we’re unsure of how to help soothe a friend or family member in distress. Listen as Pastor Kate dives into that phrase and the request that we ask of God, to “save us from the time of trial,” in the Lord’s prayer.

Accompanying Scripture:
Psalm 130, Matthew 6:9-13

Accompanying Scripture:
Numbers 14:19-24, Matthew 6:9-13
